Your mental health is as important as your physical wellbeing. In fact, more than that. The reason being, mental issues are not visible on the outside. It is precisely why they say that mental health disorders make you suffer in the shadows.

The question is, how to take care of your mental health? What to do in order to keep mental health disorders at bay? As I briefly mentioned above, your mental health is a lot more complicated than your physical wellbeing. It requires you to be more careful.

Well, with a few lifestyle changes, you can have a healthy and sound mind. Have a look:

Exercise

First and foremost, you need to add exercise to your everyday routine. Regular exercise can uplift your mood and boost your energy by increasing the number of endorphins in your bloodstream.

Besides that, a daily workout can alleviate the stress and anxiety that everyday life brings for you. Therefore, I always recommend starting the day with a workout session.

You don’t need to join a gym or hire a fitness expert for it. A few minutes of a simple morning walk would suffice.

Meditation

Ranking second is meditation, a peace-promoting healing practice. A few minutes of regular meditation can help you achieve a tranquil mind and a deep state of relaxation.

Meditation can help get rid of the unnecessary thoughts and emotions that may be crowding your mind and contributing to your anxiety and stress levels. It promotes both psychological and physiological relaxation.

Again, you don’t need to join a meditation class for it. There are various tutorials available online. Look for one and start practicing.

Herbs and Plants

I often feel exceptionally stressed about work and related things. Initially, I started taking anti-anxiety medicines for it, but I eventually came under fire as the side effects were terrible. It was then I switched to herbs and plants.

Numerous herbs and plants bring along natural healing properties; thus, they work incredibly well for anxiety and stress relief. Also, they have minimal to no side effects, which makes them convenient for everyday use.

Chamomile, ashwagandha, saffron, passionflower, Canadian shrooms, turmeric, and CBD extracts are a few great examples of such herbs and plants.

Body Massage

Body massage has various health benefits, both physiological and psychological. It is especially great for your mental wellness. You can either visit a spa or hire a masseuse.

On the other hand, buying a massage chair is another viable option. Chair massage therapies are equally beneficial. Although massage chairs are quite expensive, it’s just a one-time investment, and their benefits are fabulous.

A massage chair can save you the hassle of driving to a spa twice or thrice a week. You don’t have to pay for the body massage every time you use the chair and it can provide you with a relaxing body massage in the comfort of your home, which is the best part of the story.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is another traditional healing method that promotes both mental and physical wellbeing. In aromatherapy, natural plants are used in order to eliminate stress, anxiety, physical tension, and fatigue.

As relaxing as it is, you need to understand that every essential oil works differently on different people. What works best for your friend may not work well for you, and that’s normal.

You can try a few scents before sticking to one. It may take some time but trust me, it’s going to be worth it.

Journal Writing

Writing a diary or journal is an extremely healthy habit when it comes to your mental wellness. As you know, everyday life throws a lot of stress and anxiety your way. One way to steer clear of it is by writing it down.

That’s right, guys. Write your thoughts, worries, and fears in a journal and let it take that $1000 weight off your shoulders. It is something that will leave you feeling light and stress-free.

Talking to your loved ones is also beneficial, but most people feel reluctant to do so due to the fear of being judged. Hence, I recommend writing a journal. It’s helpful and no, your journal won’t judge you for anything you feel or write.

Appropriate Sleep

Your sleep is of utmost importance if you wish to secure your mental health. As mentioned by the Sleep Foundation, one needs to sleep for at least 7-8 hours a day in order to function healthily.

Needless to say, sleep deprivation can cause a lot of mental health issues. Apart from fatigue and muscle tension, it can increase the number of cortisol (a stress hormone) in your body. Thus, it’s imperative to take care of your sleep cycle.

A Healthy Diet

Last but not least, you need to have a healthy diet if you truly wish to take care of your mental health. In simple words, your diet has a significant impact on your physical and mental health.

Several foods and beverages negatively contribute to your mental health. For example, coffee, tea, and dark chocolate may relax you temporarily, but they actually increase your anxiety levels due to the presence of caffeine, which is a stimulant.

It is precisely why I suggest you cut back on caffeine, added sugar, and carbs. Instead, you should add proteins, vitamins, and minerals to your everyday diet. It will bring you great results in less than a week as you’ll feel better about yourself.

The Final Word…

Following the tips and tricks mentioned above, you can effortlessly keep mental health disorders at bay. Remember that taking care of your mental health is crucial and prevention is always better than cure. Coming back from the verge of suicide and clinical depression is not easy. Hence, it’s wise to keep your mental health in check. I wish you all the best, my friends. Have a wonderful day ahead!
