With a heavy heart, we are now ready to bid adieu to MOM. We have enjoyed eight seasons of the show. Mom, a popular CBS sitcom, became popular for its focus on addiction, recovery and motherhood. So, we really cannot accept its abrupt ending, which was anything but planned. Chuck Lorre, the executive producer of Mom, has expressed his disgust about Mom ending in such a bizarre way. He claims it is “not something we wanted”.
According to the USA Today, he added, “It was heartbreaking, because I think everyone involved felt that there were so many more stories to tell, that we had a perfect ensemble and a show that, as much as it’s funny, was meaningful.” Fans are grieving the end of Mom, with one fan writing, “LOVE this show & will miss it A LOT. All the cast, every last one of them did a superb job. The producers, Actors, Writers, Directors should be ALL PROUD.”
All fans are unhappy that the show has come to a close, and many viewers have no idea about what might happen to Adam. We will talk about it in this blog post.
What Happened to Adam?
Adam is a character in the ‘Mom’ TV series. He has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Bonnie comes to know that his husband suffers from a life-threatening disease. It’s a triggering event for an alcoholic. The news is shocking for the patient and his family too but Bonnie handles it bravely.
She comforts Adam by saying that the phase will pass and they will overcome the challenge together. Bonnie keeps his prognosis secret. Viewers are still not aware of Adam’s fate. They are in the dark about his future. However, we all know what could happen to him. Life is not always rosy and many times, unfortunate events can silence the happy chirping in our life.
According to co-creator Gemma Baker, “For this show, it didn’t feel accurate to wrap everything up with a happy ending, or tie it up all in a bow. That’s not how life works. In recovery, people have to face life on life’s terms. Some of the things that our characters are going to face are going to be happy and joyful, and some of them are going to be terrible, but they’re going to be able to face those things together.”
She added that Bonnie did not break down after learning the news, at least, not apparently. It shows the strength in her character. A lot of characters are shown in sobriety in many movies and shows. The characters relapse as soon as there is a crisis. Showing Bonnie’s firm stand against the problems in her life, thanks to moral support from her friends, can give audiences a strong feeling that Bonnie will be alright.
In fact, Adam’s diagnosis can be compared to what happened to Alvin six years ago. He succumbed to his illness.
“When Alvin died [in Season 2], Bonnie was tempted to drink. There was a scene in a bar with Christy and Bonnie. She actually didn’t drink then, but later that season [she] got into some trouble with medication… The way she handles the situation with Adam definitely is different. With Alvin, she went off by herself, and with Adam, she turned to her friends. So I think it does demonstrate how much she has grown,” Gemma explains.
Mom compiles too many things in one package. At the core, it is all about love and relationship, recovery and healing, odds and overcoming. The movie sheds light on how one can deal with some unfortunate things in a brave way.
From the starting to the concluding episode, the show is meant to give us hope. We will surely miss Mom.
Why Did Anne Faris Leave Mom?
Anna Faris slipped away from Mom before the final season i.e. the eighth season. At that time, Faris cited pursuing new opportunities as the reason for her leaving. However, she now tells why she stepped back from acting, adding that it was not a “conscious” choice at that time.
“I kind of took my foot off the gas and I spent a lot of time with my son,” the actress tells People ahead of her return to the small screen for a Super Bowl 2023 commercial for Avocados From Mexico. “It felt really good. It wasn’t conscious, but sort of a sabbatical, I guess.”
