Random number generators (RNGs) are vital to online casino games. This technology is the backbone of online gambling software because it ensures that the outcomes of these games are entirely random. All reputable casino software platforms have the necessary infrastructure to support such high-performance technology. Such platforms are highly adaptable to all requirements ensuring user security and safety.

A random number generator, or RNG, is a type of computer program that generates numbers randomly. RNGs make long number chains that never follow a pattern and are neither sequenced. They are responsible for randomly generating numbers when a user makes a request.

The Random Number Generator

There are many kinds of RNGs for casino software, but most of the time, numbers are chosen using one of two methods: “true random” or “pseudo-random.”

True Random Number Generators (TRNGs) pick up random numbers based on physical events with random parts like noise signals. This makes it impossible for a hacker to change the numbers because of the randomness of the actual physical event.

A Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) uses algorithms to generate large strings of numbers based on a shortened number sequence. This shorter string of numbers is called a “seed number,” Like a TRNG, it can sometimes come from a physical or natural source. But given that the process is entirely digital and uses a seed number and an algorithm, a hacker could try to access both to “guess” or reverse-engineer the values. But there is almost no chance that this will happen.

RNGs are used almost everywhere, including computer simulations, security applications, and statistical sampling. But in this blog, we’ll focus on how they’re used in casinos.

How does the RNG work in slot machines?

Let’s look at how this might work if you play slots online using authorized casino software. Say, there is a casino slot machine with three reels and 12 symbols on each reel. The RNG would give each symbol a value and randomly pick a value between 1 and 12 for each of the three reels. This leads to three random symbols that aren’t connected to each other in any way. If they come together to make a winning combination (i.e., the three symbols match in all the 3 reels), the slot game will give you your reward.

This technology is also used in games like jackpot slots and video poker, played on machines at land-based casinos. Like online slots, poker, and other digital casino games, the results of these games are decided in the same way.

Is it possible to beat the RNG?

As a matter of fact, no, you can never beat the RNG. Trustable random number generators in casino software are made so that the average online player can’t “beat” them, ensuring all fairness to their physical counterparts.

RNGs ensure that results of gambling games are always random and give people a chance to win when they play their favorite games.
